How did Light My Fire BBQ get started?  It happened one Summer day in July of 2004, we entered our first contest in Smyrna TN.   We didn't place, but the thrill of being out there and meeting new friends enjoying BBQ was enough that it saw us compete in our first contest in Clarksville, TN in Oct of 2004.  We took 2nd in Anything But- a category that is done on Friday nights for fun. I cooked a tasty swordfish!  In the regular BBQ categories we got our first call ever with a 10th place Chicken call. Getting recognized in front of your peers that are some of the best cooks in the country is a real thrill!  You know when you get a call you have earned it!

The sanctioning body for BBQ contest is thru the Kansas City Barbeque Society or KCBS the largest BBQ sanctioning body in the world, this is how our catering company was formed from the early beginnings of learing how to meet deadlines for turn in- you must be with in 10 mins of each turn in for Chicken at Noon, ribs- 12:30p, pork- 1:00p and Brisket 1:30p- if your late even a second your disqualified- to date we have never missed a turn in time, in 4 years!  Learning to set up on site and meeting every challenge to cook in various weather has made us ready for any catering challenge as cooking in competition is the most demanding cooking any one can do.  Chefs from the best cooking schools in America have been humbled competing in KCBS events.
